Mariner Bay's space program
804-REdg
A reporter on Mariner
Bay's Channel 5 Action News announced that Mariner Bay's space devlopment program was
launching its new shuttle.
The footage of the
shuttle sliding into position in a bay was actually of the Astro Megashuttle.
As final preparations were underway, a spokesman
for the space program had announced that the shuttle flight would launch
a low-flying satellite.
This mission was flown by first time pilot Nancy Cooper, a graduate of Mariner Bay's own flight academy and first in
her class.
During the
countdown, Nancy was shown
making some final checks in the cockpit, and the shuttle lifted off,
shown as the Megashuttle liftoff.
The report continued that the mission would spend
only a quick four hours in space, where it would run several ship
maneuvers and vacuum tests which had been strategically mapped out, as
well as launching the satellite.
Soon, the first stage had reportedly separated
from the craft.
Once in orbit, mission control let Nancy and her copilot engage the
autopilot.
The shuttle, now depicted in its true form, was
similar to a normal space shuttle but with the top boosters modified, no
tail wing, and upward crooks in the wingtips; it bore no flags or names.
In sentai shots
during the shuttle's descent, its exterior bore the name "Nippon"
("Japan") and a red dot, the Japanese flag.
During their descent through the atmosphere, Nancy observed booster engines were
clear, but they soon were buffeted by a tornado in the atmosphere at
48,000 feet, starting to go down.
As Aero Rescue
Three pulled up beside the smoking shuttle on its descent, Joel radioed them saying, "Helllooo space shuttle,
this is Aero Rescue Three at your service,
coming up at 2:00 right about now."
Nancy
replied that most of her controls were jammed, including landing gear,
so Aero Rescue Three locked on its cable
magnets while the other Rangers cleared the
freeway to become a landing strip.
On Kelsey's word, Joel proceeded to bring the shuttle down toward the
moving HazRescue Four and released,
allowing Nancy to glide the
shuttle down for a rough landing on Kelsey's
roof, after which Pyro Rescue One set it
on the ground gently with its ladder arms.
Nancy's
suit had numerous patches, described below. (Source: Patch analyses
submitted by Derik Smith)
On Nancy's left shoulder was a
circular patch with a black starfield and a white arrow orbiting a red
planet.
The left breast patch was a brown leather patch
with a pair of pilot wings and the title "Commander" stamped in gold.
The right breast patch was a dark blue circular
patch containing a series of gold concentric circles, with a green
planet in the lower right corner; overlaid on top of this was a complex
gold design with two Y-like protrusions.
On the right shoulder was a triangular patch with
a picture of a space shuttle on it, and the words "Space Shuttle" below,
and below this was a patch of the United States
flag; another large triangular space shuttle patch was on her back.

Nancy Cooper, actually an astronaut for Mariner Bay's space program, was jogging with her
little dog Dorsie when Dorsie ran into traffic and sat in the middle of
the street as Nancy paused to tie her shoe.
Suddenly, Kelsey leapt
out on rollerblades in the nick of time, grabbing the dog, and she then
suddenly skated under the trailer of a passing truck to get out of
traffic.
On the other side of the street, the two girls
happily introduced themselves, joined by the gathering crowd which had
held Nancy from rushing after her dog.
Nancy thought Kelsey
must be crazy, but she smiled that she was very glad she was, and Kelsey replied that "crazy" was her middle name;
Nancy laughed in a pleased manner, and Kelsey
gazed back at her.
As Kelsey suddenly said
she had to go, Nancy replied with a soft lingering "awww..."; Kelsey then skated off backwards while waving
eagerly at them, and Nancy sweetly waved her dog's paw in front of her
face after Kelsey.
Later, perhaps another day, reporter on Mariner Bay's Channel 5 Action News announced
that Mariner Bay's space devlopment program
was launching its new shuttle.
The mission was flown by first time pilot Nancy
Cooper, a graduate of Mariner Bay's own
flight academy and first in her class.
During the countdown, Nancy was shown making some
final checks in the cockpit, and the shuttle lifted off.
The mission would spend only a quick four hours
in space, where it would run several ship maneuvers and vacuum tests
which had been strategically mapped out, as well as launching a
low-orbit satellite.
Once in orbit, mission control let Nancy and her
copilot engage the autopilot.
During their descent later, Nancy saw a weather
condition ahead but was then horrified to realize it was a tornado.
A cloud of rubble pelted the ship as they flew
into it, and their altitude was at 48,000 and dropping as Nancy
struggled to steer.
As Aero Rescue
Three pulled up beside the smoking shuttle on its descent, Joel radioed them saying, "Helllooo space shuttle,
this is Aero Rescue Three at your service,
coming up at 2:00 right about now."
Nancy replied that most of her controls were
jammed, including landing gear, so Kelsey had
him attach his cable magnets, which Nancy apparently overheard, although
she apparently didn't notice Kelsey's name
being spoken.
The magnets latched on, and Joel pulled up, leveling off the shuttle, but Carter said it couldn't land at that speed, so Kelsey had Dana clear the
freeway to become a landing strip.
Once the freeway was clear, Kelsey drove down the freeway and told Joel to put the shuttle on her roof, alarming both
Joel and Nancy, but when Kelsey replied that "crazy" was her middle name,
Nancy joyfully realized who she was.
With determination, Nancy agreed if Kelsey thought it would work, and Joel proceeded to bring the shuttle down toward HazRescue Four; as planned, Joel released once close, and Nancy glided the
shuttle down for a rough landing on Kelsey's
roof.
The shuttle on her roof, Carter warned Kelsey she
was running out of freeway; the shuttle briefly came up off the roof but
slammed down again, and Kelsey engaged full
reverse, HazRescue Four coming to a stop
right at the edge of a broken freeway bridge, presumably broken by Whirlin's earlier tornado.
As the copilots celebrated, Kelsey admitted that had been crazy, even for her,
and Nancy laughed.
Pyro Rescue One
then drove up and set the shuttle onto the ground gently with its ladder
arms.
When giant Whirlin attacked but was destroyed
by the Rangers' Lightspeed Megazord, Nancy happily remarked
into her headset that nothing was impossible for them.
Amidst nearby rubble, Nancy then met the Rangers face to face, Kelsey without her helmet, and Nancy waved
excitedly to the Yellow
Ranger.
The girls hugged happily, Kelsey delightedly squealing Nancy's name, and
they talked while breathlessly excited.
Nancy exclaimed that she should have known Kelsey would turn out to be a Power Ranger, asking what it was like to be a
part of Lightspeed Rescue; Kelsey loved it but admitted to always having
dreamed of flying the space shuttle, and Nancy amusedly suggested they
keep their own jobs after seeing the kind of rescues Kelsey had to do.
The girls giggled, and Kelsey affectionately put her arm around Nancy,
smiling to the others and then grinning at Nancy.
One of Nancy's uniform patches bore the title
"Commander."
"Mariner Bay's space program."
